Adequate rhythms and changes in rhythm are implied in many sports. Rhythm of movement is sometimes described as the expression of timing: it is the relaxation and contraction within a movement. Rhythm can be trained within general movement skills and within sport-specific skills. Rhythm should be felt and not contemplated.

Within game sports, step rhythm (e.g. step kength, flight time and ground contact time) has to be efficiently adapted to each new condition. Rhythm ans agility are closely related and can be trainedby dancing, playing games (e.g. tag, basketball), use of skill circuits or obstacle tracks, moving on an uneven surface, skills using stairs or even by playing a musical instrument.

The rhythmic ability has a sensitive period for girls of 7,8 and 9 years and for boys of 9 and 10 years.
