Cross over dribble

Omschrijving

The crossover dribble is a move where the player will dribble the ball from hand and to another.

With the help of a crossover dribble a player can quickly change direction, dodging players and defenders.

The drawback to a crossover is that when the ball is being dribbled to the other hand, it will be easier for a defender to intercept.

Performing a crossover dribble

  • Dribbling to the right side of the field is done with the right hand, dribbling to the left side is done with the left hand
  • Dribbling on a normal height, with a movement of the wrist the ball is dribbled to the other hand.
  • Body turns away from the opponent and the other hand will protect the ball.

Teaching the crossover dribble

  • Standing still: Dribble the ball from one hand to another.
  • While walking.
  • While jogging.
  • Place pylons diagonally and have players make a cross over right before the pylon.
  • Do the same thing but with a passive defender.

Leerpunten

  2. Don't dribble the ball too high or too low
  3. Keep protecting the ball after a cross over
  4. Whilst dribbling, don't look at the ball and make sure you have a good overviewon the field
  5. Dribble the ball with just one bounce to the other hand
