Hook shot

A hook shot is a one shot that is taken sideways relative to the rim. The player throws the ball at the rim with a sideways movement. A hook shot is not so much used in modern basketball, players make a jump hookshot.

A hook shot is difficult to defend and to block because the ball is further away from the defender.

Execution of a hook shot (in this case coming from the left side)

• Ball in the right hand
• Drop off with the left foot
• Knee up from right leg
• Body turns towards the basket
• Right hand brings the ball up and the ball is thrown over the head to the basket.
