Jab step

A jab step is making a step towards the defender to provoke a reaction from the defender. When the defender goes along in the movement, the dribble moves quickly in the other direction or gets room for the shot.

Depending on the direction in which the jab step is made, the ball must be protected.

Performing the jab step

• Do not make the step too big
• Make the jabstep as far as possible towards the basket
• Protect the ball depending on the direction of the jab step
• Take the first step to the right, ball on the right hip
• Then with the right leg the step to the left, swing the ball
• Then the ball can be dribbled in this case with the left hand
