Pick & Roll

Pick & roll is a 2-man game. Here a fellow player puts a screen on the attacker’s defender with the ball. Pick & roll requires the necessary technical skills such as setting screens. With pick & roll there are several angles for the screen on the ball. An example is by setting an inside screen, in which the ball owner dribbles from the sideline to the center of the field. This name is derived from the fact that the screen is placed on the side of the body of the attacker’s defender, which one wants to release.

When the ball owner has passed the point of the screen (where players crossed each other), it is often ’taken over’ by the defender of the screener. The screener can make use of this by rolling himself off to the basket and thus creates a two against one situation. The screener usually makes a reverse pivot with the face to the ball before it rolls off.
