Protecting the ball
Laatst gewijzigd 12 april 2016
Omschrijving
If the ball is obtained after a rebound, the ball needs to be guarded so that the defender can’t take the ball or hit it out of the attackers hands.
As soon the ball is received, the ball has too be positioned under the chin, the elbows face out to keep the ball out of reach of the defenders. By moving the ball around it will be more difficult for the defender to steal the ball. The distance between the ball and the defender can me extended by pivoting backwards or to the side.
As the attacker receives and protects the ball it’s a smart move to look for defenders and teammates over the shoulder.
For drills: see the skill Rebounding
Leerpunten
- Hold the ball on the sides with two and elbows facing out.
- Hold the ball just below the chin
- Rebound: Look over the shoulder where the defenders and the outlet pass are.
