Omschrijving

What is it?

The 5 out-motion offense is an offense that can be played continuously (motion offense) and where all players can / must play at all positions. The 5 out-motion offense is easy to teach and to learn. From U12, children can already learn to move / cut to the basket after giving a pass without immediately going into the full motion offense.

Benefits

  • Easy to learn
  • Players learn to play in all positions
  • Good way to teach youth to play basketball
  • Requires good spacing
  • Defense must defend a large part of the field

Spacing, passing & cutting

With the 5 out-motion offense, spacing and cutting to the basket is important. Spacing means creating space on the court. Because all players start at a location outside the 3-point line, the opponent is forced to come out and creates space that can be used by dribbling or cutting offenders.

Cons

  • Less applicable to 1 or 2 star players who dominate the game and scores
  • Players tend to walk the lines of othe offense and not react to how the game is being played (read & react)
  • Although easy to learn, it can take a long time before the offense is automated.
