Channeling

Laatst gewijzigd 12 april 2016

Omschrijving

Steering or channeling means giving such pressure to the man with the ball that he has to dribble to a specific side of the court as desired by the defender, for example towards the sideline or to force the man with the ball to dribble with the weak hand.

Penetration of the ball must be prevented and this must be done in such an active, aggressive manner as possible. This activity (aggression) focuses primarily on the ball and techniques such as channeling, subdividing into funneling (leading by means of overplay from the ball handler to the middle) and fanning (leading by means of overplay of the ball handler to the outside).

The basic tactic is that the ball must not enter the bucket area and this should not be done primarily on the basis of tactical means, but by means of aggressive defense techniques, aimed at the ball, happen. The attacker must be busy protecting, defending the ball; he may not accrue to his offensive intentions.
